Important Installation Notice

 

 

 

Prior to exterior installation of White Wood or Nu-Alum all exposed Sign Panel edges and fastening holes must be sealed properly to prevent moisture from penetrating substrate.  Failure to properly seal panel edges with seal-and-paint method or Nudo cap method will cause panel deterioration and negate panel warranty.

Edge sealing of wood substrate panel is required and critical to long-term product performance in exterior installations.

 

Required Methods for sealing exposed White Wood and Nu-Alum sign panel edges for exterior applications

 

Nudo Vinyl or Aluminum Cap Method with Nudo Silicone Sealant

Remove Protective Film

Notch or miter Nudo cap to align with corner.

Place a bead of Nudo 100% silicone sealant along length of Nudo cap, applying sufficient amount to have a slight squeeze out on both sides of cap.  Wipe away any excess immediately with clean dry cloth.

Apply Nudo cap to edge of board starting at corner and working outward.

When applying Nudo cap to curved edge use a heat gun to bend around corners.

 

Attention: Use Nudo vinyl cap and silicone when ever possible.  Failure to use Nudo Vinyl Cap and Nudo silicone sealant will void panel warranty.  Check with your local distributor to ensure your cap and silicone sealant is Nudo certified.

 

Seal-and-Paint Method

Leave Protective film on prior to sealing edge

Use (DAP Alex Plus or BOSS 363) a high quality acrylic latex with silicone caulk available in colors or a comparable product found at leading home improvement stores. Read manufacturers directions. Apply a 1/16” thick layer spread evenly over entire panel edge.  Repeat process if required to ensure panel edges are completely sealed. 

Panel edges must be completely sealed.

Once caulk is dry paint edges if required.  Follow manufacturers guidelines for correct application for applying paint to edge.

 

Note: an acrylic latex silicone must be used on exposed wood panel edges as the initial sealer (Primer).  Other wood primer, sealers, and paints are not acceptable for exterior use and void panel warranty.

 

Fill all fastener holes with silicone

 

Fill all holes with Nudo 100% silicone sealant before fastening screws.

Secure Fastener and wipe away any excess silicone sealant.

 

Use oversized fastener heads or washers to allow for thermal expansion and contraction of panel.
